The Dakota Keeps Thursday in the Pocket With Its Final Jazz Jams
Players and listeners gather every Thursday from 8 PM to 11 PM through August 6 at the East Side ice house.
SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS — Thursday has a house band at The Dakota East Side Ice House, where the weekly Jazz Jam continues from 8 PM to 11 PM every Thursday through August 6.
The no-cover session is built for both sides of a working jazz room. Musicians can bring an instrument and sit in. Listeners can take a table, follow the set, and let a Thursday night become part of their week. The distinction matters: this is not a concert asking the audience to stand at a distance. It is a neighborhood room where the music changes according to who arrives.
The Dakota’s official website lists Jazz Jam every Thursday at 8 PM and describes the East Side venue as a community gathering place shaped by live music, conversation, food, and the people who use the room. Located less than five minutes from downtown at 433 South Hackberry Street, the ice house has served San Antonio since 2018.
The remaining Thursday sessions now carry additional meaning. Owner Kent Oliver has announced that The Dakota’s final operating day will be Sunday, August 9, 2026. Regularly scheduled events, including the Jazz Jam, are continuing until then. The final Thursday dates are July 16, July 23, July 30, and August 6.
That makes the invitation simple without turning it into spectacle. Players can join the set. Listeners can support the room. Former regulars can return, and people who have always meant to visit can finally make The Dakota their Thursday place.
Food and drinks are available at menu prices throughout the evening. Admission to the Jazz Jam is free.
